WHAT is a WATER SOFTENER?

WHAT is a WATER SOFTENER?

What is a Water Softener? You’ve heard of them and likely know they use salt but what does a water softener look like? Maybe you’ve moved into a new home and you have one in the basement or have your new neighbours told you that you’ll need one? How does it work? How big is it? Where does it install in your home, cottage or cabin and can you install it yourself? Do you really need one for your family? This video is for you if you’ve never had a water softener before and are considering one for your family!! I’ll also share, later in the video, what types of “water softeners” you definitely should avoid. Water softeners have two tanks, one with a control valve at the top, which is called the media tank. The other tank (that looks like a garbage can) with a lid that you open, holding the salt, is called the brine tank. Sometimes the smaller tank is actually inside the larger tank, like on this Aquamaster water softener. They can vary in size between this small Aquamaster High Efficiency water softenerhttps://waterestore.ca/products/aquam... to larger Standard Efficiency two piece water softeners like this Clack WS1 softenershttps://waterestore.ca/products/hum-d... Water is softened as it flows through the water softener through a bed of small plastic beads that look like Honey Comb cereal but are a lot smaller. As water passes over the beads, the hardness (calcium and magnesium) and iron sticks to the beads and is removed from your water. Eventually, the beads are covered with calcium and magnesium and needs to be regenerated, or cleaned so they can continue to soften the water. The water softener automatically triggers the regeneration process, which typically happens at night, but not every night, just when you’ve run out of capacity or about every 5-7 days. This YouTube video of mine explains that process   • WHAT is WATER SOF...   Basically, water and salt makes brine and it’s used to clean out and regenerate the beads so the water softener can continue to softener the water in your home for your family. If you’re handy you can easily install a water softener yourself or hire a plumber for a professional installation. But Beware and stay way from “salt less” water softeners as they don’t work, if they did I would definitely sell them. With a salt based water softener we can test the water before the water softener, showing your water as being hard and after showing your water as being soft.
