Does your well water smell like rotten eggs? Disgusting, isn’t it? You might get used to it but your family and guests will remind you that YOUR WATER STINKS! How embarrassing! In this video I’m going to explain to you the cheapest and best way to get rid of that sulfur smell from your well water for good, starting right now! Whether you’re a DIY homeowner, plumber or water treatment specialist, this video is for you! Sulfur can be removed from water a number of ways, I’ll explain the pros and cons of each one so you can decide which one is best for your family. Also, I suggest you watch this video right to the end as I’ve got a great tip which can save your family a couple of thousand dollars! First, check to see if the smell is in both your cold and hot water or just the hot. The cheapest way to get rid of that sulfur smell from both the cold and hot water is to let the water degas by simply pouring your water into a container and letting air oxidize the sulfur out of your water. You might end up trying a simple carbon filter like one of thesehttps://waterestore.ca/search?type=pr... as you might have heard that they are taste and odor filters and are fairly inexpensive but although it might help for a day or two but they do not work on sulphur. Air over media systems like the FOC, FOB and FOK use no chemicals and have no replacement filters and like a water softener they clean themselves. This YouTube video explains how they work and how to determine which model is best for your family • BEST IRON and SUL... Check out these systems herehttps://waterestore.ca/search?type=pr... The Ozone method involves injecting ozone into the water and then capturing the stuff oxidized out and then back washing it out. Problem with these systems are that they are expensive, the ozone generator does not last long and are expensive to replace and the ozone is not compatible with the plastic parts in the sulfur filter valve, so long term the valve will need replacement much sooner. This system will work on iron bacteria, although the chemical procedure is recommended. The chemical procedure involves injecting an oxidizing chemical like chlorine into the water, giving it some contact time by having it accumulate in a holding tank, usually of about 100 gallons and then removing the stuff that was oxidized out of the water and then removing most of the chlorine. I don’t like this process because these systems are expensive, take up a lot of space and are high maintenance but if you have iron bacteria this is the way to go. The best solution for most families, although definitely not the cheapest is one of these FOC’shttps://waterestore.ca/products/hum-f... They are chemical free, use air to oxidize out the iron and there’s virtually no maintenance. If you have iron and sulphur in your water an FOK might be a better choicehttps://waterestore.ca/products/hum-c... This is how the FOB or K works. The system draws air in through its intake in it’s advanced electronic control valve to form a large air bubble within the top of the media tank. Check out this video • HOW Does a CHEMIC... If you have zero budget, try aerating your water for drinking, it will make a huge difference. If you have iron bacteria with your sulfur smell you are best advised to use the chlorine injection method of getting rid of the iron bacteria, sulphur smell and disinfecting the water at the same time. For most families the FOC/K is the best route. No chemicals to buy or add or would end up in your septic system and super low maintenance.
