Reverse Osmosis or RO faucets are available in air gap and non-air gap variants, but what is an air gap anyway, and which one do you need for your family?
An air gap RO Faucet has 3 connections on the bottom. The center one comes from the RO system. The larger of the two other ones comes from the RO waste water. The waste water goes into the faucet and then comes back out of the faucet going to the drain. If your sewer backs up, this air gap prevents the sewer water from getting into your RO.
The non-air gap faucet just has the center connection. Why wouldn’t you want to use the air gap? They’re noisy and often leak! But if you do have an air gap faucet and decide not to use that part, you can just connect the RO drain line straight to the drain instead of to the air gap first.
