Please note that these are perfect for removing chlorine from city water but will not remove Chloramines. Not sure if your municipality uses chlorine or chloramines? This video will help you sort that out. These backwashable filters are a much lower maintenance and lower cost, long term alternative to cartridge type filters that need to be replaced up to several times a year. These Carbon automatic backwashing filters can go up to 20 years without maintenance. Untreated water flows into the tank through the valve and passes through the Carbon media, which traps the chlorine removing it from your water. Chlorine free water flows into your home for your family. After a pre-programmed period of time, usually about 5 days, the automatic backwash cycle begins and lasts for about 6 to 15 minutes. Water is forced down through a tube in the middle of the tank and then upwards through the filter bed, causing the Carbon to expand, and as it does, the water carries the chlorine we have been filtering out of the water to the drain. At the end of the backwash cycle, the valve changes the direction of flow through the filter and the water flows quickly downward to rinse and settle the Carbon so that it’s ready to go back into service to remove the chlorine from your family’s water. No chemicals to add or replenish and very long media life.
