Common Questions

The TAC® scale prevention cartridge lasts up to 3 years (about 250,000 gallons). The radial flow carbon block needs replacement every 6–12 months (or around 50,000 gallons).

Nope—HydroTAC is designed with simplicity in mind. It needs no drain connection, no electricity, and no salt. Just connect it and you're good to go.

Absolutely. TAC® technology has been shown to prevent up to 99.6% of scale formation, extending the lifespan of your appliances, water heater, and plumbing.

The activated carbon filter targets chlorine, odors, rust, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and common PFAS chemicals—leaving your water fresher and safer.

The HydroTAC system doesn’t remove minerals like a traditional salt softener — instead, it changes their form so they can’t stick to surfaces. Your water will still contain calcium and magnesium (which is good for health), but you should notice less scale buildup on fixtures, glassware, and appliances. If you see no improvement after 2–3 weeks, check that your filter cartridges are installed correctly and your water meets the required specs.

A drop in flow usually means the carbon filter is nearing the end of its life. First, confirm that your shut-off valves are fully open. Then, check the carbon cartridge for clogging from sediment or debris. If it’s been 6–12 months since the last change (or you’ve used close to 50,000 gallons), replace the cartridge and flush the system as directed.
